About this album
The Ultimate Collection may start off as a rundown of Hank Williams’ greatest hits, but by the middle of disc two, it's transitioned into a well-curated collection of vital honky-tonk rarities. His take on "Cool Water," for instance, is sharper and more minimal than Eddy Arnold's better-known version, with Williams’ twangy voice soaring above simply strummed guitar. The compilation ends with four songs from Williams’ Health & Happiness performances, including a cryptically delivered take on “Lost Highway” complete with pristine lap steel.
