About this album
James Blake's 2011 debut is a stunning, soulful post-dubstep album that embraces empty, infinite space. He’s like a choir boy bellowing from a dark cave dripping in electronics, but even his crystallized falsetto can’t escape the occasional electric shock, as eerie piano and ticking rhythms flood "Unluck" and booming, hollow beats scatter across "The Wilhelm Scream." On "I Never Learnt to Share," his vocals multiply and contort with every maddening buzz, a striking contrast to his stark cover of Feist’s "Limit to Your Love."
