About this album
Whitney Houston’s seventh album draws on 21st-century R&B and classic soul to great effect. The gently funky “Million Dollar Bill” rallies women who aren’t appreciated by their partners; “I Look to You” channels Houston’s gospel upbringing, giving her space to express uncertainty and regret before its triumphant climax. The charging “I Didn’t Know My Own Strength,” a co-write between Houston and balladeer Diane Warren, builds on that theme, painting a portrait of resilience that’s made more vivid by Houston’s slightly weary yet unbowed vocal.
