About this album
Compiling more than 100 songs across half a decade—including a handful of live tracks and stereo remixes—this exhaustive set follows Chuck Berry as he finds his groove in the years after his pioneering ’50s output. There are surprising stylistic departures alongside the expected rockers, as when Berry fully embraces calypso on “Jamaica Farewell” and Spanish-language sultriness on “Vaya Con Dios.” He even crosses the 10-minute mark on a rewarding pair of jams with Bo Diddley and downright croons on the sensitive ballad “Wee Hour Blues.”
