About this album
This Brooklyn trio’s 1993 debut set the stage for the mid-’90s East Coast rap renaissance. Enta da Stage is alternately grimy and graceful, with Da Beatminerz’s Evil Dee laying down ghostly jazz breaks and deep, blunted basslines. But the star is Buckshot, endlessly cool and cocky in the face of his bleak surroundings. And for all the lyrical intricacies, there are hooks for days: massive, group-chanted choruses, done best on “Ack Like You Want It,” perfect for screaming at full volume.
