About this album
The second Blood, Sweat & Tears album is a coat of many colours, and very 1969. Bookended by a rock interpretation of Erik Satie, the album mixes “Smiling Phases,” a Sly Stone funk freakout heavy on the brass, with “Sometimes in Winter,” a languid croon built from prog-rock stabs and Sinatra’s bitter introspection. “Spinning Wheel” is psychedelic folk wisdom delivered in a soul vamp, while “You’ve Made Me so Very Happy” anticipates early-‘70s bubblegum pop while sounding utterly devoted and sincere.
