After two major-label albums showcasing his eclectic coffeehouse songcraft, Jason Mraz aims higher on We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things. with funky grooves, electronic beats, and his own brand of finely wrought soul. The fedora-clad songwriter’s passion for the opposite sex shows in the clever wordplay and ’70s-style R&B horns of “Butterfly,” and on “The Dynamo of Volition” he goes all out with high-speed vocal acrobatics. Amid the uplifting vibes, though, there’s also “Love for a Child,” a bitter and poignant ballad about his parents’ divorce.
