A Girl Like Me (Deluxe)

Chicago pop star BJRNCK isn’t your average celebrity. On A Girl Like Me, she faces the same issues that plague us all, battling against insecurity, bad luck and a feeling that some intangible plague is making life harder than it needs to be. The stakes are set immediately on the self-care opener “I Care 4 U”, which features the singer showcasing her otherworldly vocal talent as she tries to steady herself in the face of a down period (it’s been six months, she explains). It’s also no coincidence that the song shares a title with the Aaliyah hit from 2001. BJRNCK is a classic R&B star, opting for timeless piano ballads (“Missing You”) and sultry love jams (“Body Right”) instead of something more aligned with the electronic-infused minimalism popular among her peers. By looking back, she provides a breath of fresh air in the world of R&B.
