Creation's opening strings perfectly set the stage for the mini-album's sweeping synth work and dramatic drops; the cinematic flourish also signals Seven Lions' expanding ambitions. Deftly fusing dubstep, trance, and downtempo, “Summer of the Occult” is as heady as its title suggests. The country-tinged indie shuffle of "Coming Home," featuring Mike Mains' yearning, inspirational vocals, makes overtures to a different type of festival crowd, while the closing epic “Leaving Earth” wears its progressive rock heart proudly on its sleeve, wrapping glitch beats in acoustic and electric guitars.
