Released 21 years after This Mortal Coil disbanded, Dust & Guitars compiles various singles from the collective, who helped cement the 4AD label's dream-pop sound. These tracks are some of the most accessible in their catalog: the jangly guitar and gothic thrill of "Sixteen Days / Gathering Dust"; "Song to the Siren," a heart-wrenching hymn from Liz Fraser of Cocteau Twins; and "We Never Danced," a previously unreleased Neil Young cover that's a spacious mix of strings, well-timed guitar strums, and Alison Limerick's powerful voice.
