LINKIN PARK helped write the nu-metal playbook, then proceeded to tear it up. Their 2000 debut, Hybrid Theory, is a genre milestone, what with its tormented pleas, brooding rhymes and crunchy breakdowns all plastered together with dense sampling and scratching. The band has since made intrepid forays into cyborg-like pummel infused with dubstep bass drops, as well as atmospheric hybrids of alt-rock and gauzy electronic music. Proving that youth is only a state of mind, The Hunting Party, released in 2014, found the veterans revisiting the blitzing hardcore of their teens.
