About this playlist
Quebec's pre-eminent tattooed troubadour has a voice that sounds like it was pickled in whisky pooled in a dirty ashtray, lending even his most sensitive ballads a serrated edge. It's a quality he inherited from the French Elvis himself, Johnny Hallyday, who similarly couched his tenderness in a tough-guy veneer. But while Lapointe's lyrics channel the grit and grace of Leonard Cohen, his musical muscle betrays a lifetime of imbibing AC/DC.
