Known for their sci-fi concepts and symphonic arrangements, Muse have played a critical role in dragging prog rock into the 21st century. The trio emerged toward the end of the Brit rock explosion of the '90s and set themselves apart with an agile balance of crushing guitar riffs and electronic atmospherics evoking the frigid vastness of space. Their music took a decidedly dystopian turn by the time they released 2006's Black Holes and Revelations. Gifted with a fragile falsetto, Matt Bellamy oozes alienation and paranoia as he meditates warily on our technological society and its discontents.
