Lil G's story is one of hip-hop redemption. A troublemaker in his youth in Los Angeles, it took a spell in juvenile hall for him to consider where he was headed and turn things around. That's when he started writing down his stories in rhyme form, as a form of exorcism. His sound combines hazy, lazy ‘90s G-funk beats with a confrontational lyrical style that owes a debt to Mexican corridos — all a suitably dramatic backdrop for his cautionary tales.
