Miles Davis: The '80s and '90s

Miles took a hard left during the '80s and '90s—his most experimental period. In fact, it's arguable that a lot of what he was making at this point wasn't even jazz. Instead, he offered up extended funk explorations alongside languid, meandering covers of Michael Jackson and Cyndi Lauper pop ballads. Or chunky, percussion-heavy tracks that sound like early hip-hop productions next to minimalist jams that practically disintegrate with every note. This is the sound of Miles changing music forever—again.
