Peanut Butter Wolf founded L.A.'s Stones Throw Records at the height of the West Coast golden age, when turntablism, abstract crate-digging, and conceptual lyricism were undergoing a renaissance. The absurdly prolific Madlib defined the early Stones Throw sound, but soon enough, Mayer Hawthorne's retro soul and The Stepkids' psychedelic R&B were expanding their vibe.
